Mr. Carlos Madrid Salazar devoted more than twenty-six years of his professional life to the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation Agriculture. He held positions such as the Director of the Andean Zone, Director of Operations, Deputy Director General, and Acting Director General.

He performed the duties of Director General ad interim from 1966 to 1967 and from 1969 to 1970; and those of Deputy Director General from 1964 to 1966 and from 1970 to 1978. In 1978, through resolution IICA the Board of Directors of the Inter-American Institute of Agricultural Sciences granted him the status of” Director Emeritus of IICA;” in recognition of his outstanding professional abilities and his genuine spirit of dedication to service in the leadership positions that he has held in the Institute.
